On December 15th last, our Relentless Rowers set off from La Gomera to complete the world’s toughest row, the Talisker Whiskey Challenge in aid of raising vital funds for CUH Charity. Sean, Patrick, Eoin and Tommy will row across 5500km of open ocean towards the Carribean island of Antigua. The current record for completing this massive undertaking is 35 days and the Relentless crew hope to break this!

Twenty five boats started & two boats were held back due to not being race ready.Of the 25 two have now left the race and another has gone from a pair to a solo row. The Relentless Rowers should have half of the race complete by New Year’s Eve!

The boat that the Relentless Crew, made up of  A team made up of Patrick O’ Connor, Eoin O’Farrell, Seán Underwood and Tommy is  7.5 meters long and 1.8 meters wide and built of wood, fibre glass, carbon fibre and Kevlar. The boat will have just one small cabin, which is the only protection teams have against the might of the ocean and powerful sun rays. If the weather proves too much for the boat and it capsizes, all the vessels are able to self-right.

All the boats come equipped with watermakers which change the sea water into drinking water. They also have solar panels which will power GPS and other vital electrical equipment. Rowers will be equipped with 90 days’ worth of rations, first aid kits and a few small luxuries and reminders of home. As the rules state – if they run out of rations and have to ask for extras, they will be disqualified.

Only 500 people have completed this feat so far, widely known as one of the toughest challenges on earth! Up against raging seas, howling winds, sharks blisters and salt rashes, sunstroke and sleep deprivation the Relentless crew will together take on this extreme endurance test in aid of CUH Charity, with a target of €20,000 to raise. They would be very grateful for any help you can give them in reaching this goal and have set up the following fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/RelentlessRower
