Munster’s top sporting stars and legends were gearing up ahead of Cork Rebel Week 2013 at the ‘Meet Your Heroes’ event to support CUH Charity, which was held in CIT sports grounds on Monday, October 14th from 12pm to 4pm.

The event, which was proudly supported by Cork Institute of Technology, kicked off Cork Rebel Week with CUH Children’s Unit patient Daniel Collins, the Lord Mayor and County Mayor officially opening the week-long celebrations with a special red balloon release at 1pm.

All were welcome to attend this free and not-to-be-missed event that featured; athletics stars Rob Heffernan and Derval O’Rourke, endurance swimmer Steve Redmond, GAA heroes Pa Cronin, Graham Canty, Emer Farmer and Jessica O’Shea from the Cork Ladies team, Munster Rugby players, Gemma Crowley, Grand-slam winning team manager of Irish Women’s Rugby National and members of Cork’s League of Ireland team.

Throughout the day, these inspirational sportspeople took part in fun sporting challenges, question and answer sessions and happily signed autographs.

While ‘Meet Your Heroes’ was free of charge, CUH Charity held a collection on the day with all donations greatly appreciated.

Professor Michael Molloy, chairman of CUH Charity had hoped both young and old would come out to support our sporting heroes and CUH Charity, which is raising much-needed funds for the refurbishment of the Children’s Unit in Cork University Hospital.

“We are delighted that so many of our charity patrons are attending this event which we hope will be a fantastic day of celebration and fun for all involved.

“Every cent donated by the public on the day will go towards the desperately needed refurbishment of the Children’s Unit.”
