We’re delighted to announce that Climb for Aileen is back for 2023 – and bigger than ever!

On May 13th this group will take on Carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in Ireland to raise vital funds for cancer services in CUH.

Let’s Conquer Carrauntoohil and drive the fight to Conquer Cancer!

Previous Climb for Aileen events have raised over €75,000 and contributed to the purchase of an Ion Torrent Genexus Machine. A key piece of equipment which can take 32 cancer samples at a time and identify the ‘DNA’ of the cancer – essentially allowing bespoke treatment for each sample.

This previously took weeks with samples being sent away – now it’s completed in 24 hours, in CUH.

Raising funds to keep CUH at the forefront of cancer care…

2023’s Climb for Aileen will be raising funds towards specialised surgical equipment, called HIPEC.

HIPEC is a machine used to fight abdominal-based cancers like colorectal and ovarian cancers. It doses chemotherapy directly into the patient’s abdomen during surgery which significantly improves the absorption of chemotherapy.

At the moment, this machine is only available in Dublin, so patients need to make several long trips. This is extremely inconvenient for them and their families during such a stressful time.

To have this machine available at CUH would eliminate those long trips and also make CUH a major player in cancer care delivery globally.
