We are excited to announce that a new Children’s hospital in Munster has passed vital approval stages.
If you have a sick child, you too need help and support. Too often families are forced to split while one parent travels to Dublin with a sick child and the other remains at home in Munster with other children or work commitments. This makes it an incredibly difficult time for both parents. And even more difficult as a single parent. Being nearer to home is hugely important for the whole family unit during a difficult time so you can lean on that support network.
In December 2020, we received confirmation that funding for a vital phase of a new €60m children’s hospital in Cork has been approved. The development of a dedicated children’s hospital will be a major step forward in the delivery of best-in-class paediatric services to the children of Munster and will make a huge difference to the families of those in the region who need this service.
Key Components of the hospital include:
- 78 beds – all single en-suite rooms with sleeping area for parents. Speciality disability rooms, high dependency rooms, haematology/oncology rooms, mental health and palliative care room.
- 6 bed paediatric assessment unit/ambulatory care space
- HSPC (health and social care professional) space – physio gym, OT/dietician space
- New school
- Space for 4 paediatric theatres
- Parents room
We look forward to working with you to make this a reality and provide the children of Munster with the best possible care into the future.
