Kerry man John Garvey, his family and the wider community of Kerry have raised over €156,000 for Cork University Hospital (CUH) over the past 16 years, in gratitude to the hospital for the incredibly professional treatment of family members.

Mr. Garvey and his daughter Clare O’Shea recently presented the latest donation of €10,130 to Damian McGovern, Unscheduled Care Lead, CUH and Michael Nason, CEO CUH Charity. This latest contribution will be divided among the Oncology, Neurology and Cystic Fibrosis Services at the Hospital and used to enhance patient care and facilities for patient comfort.

Since 2003, Mr Garvey and his family, now widely recognised for their outstanding fundraising efforts, have organised and hosted an annual benefit dance in aid of CUH. The event takes place at the Ring of Kerry Hotel in Caherciveen. Each year, through the generosity of the hotel’s proprietors, the venue is provided free of charge. The support received for the event is continuously second to none, a great night of dance, craic and ceoil is always guaranteed.

At the presentation of this year’s cheque from the Garvey family, Damian McGovern, Unscheduled Care Lead at CUH, thanked them for their continued efforts in aid of the hospital, “Due to the fantastic generosity of the Garvey family, Cork University Hospital has been able to make significant improvements to facilities that continue to change the lives of our patients for the better.” Michael Nason, CEO CUH Charity, added, “Engaging with donors like the Garvey’s is extremely rewarding, they have organised a fantastic event involving their extended community. We can’t thank them enough for their tremendous contribution. The money raised goes directly towards enhancing services of the community in which this money is raised – that’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
