In a showdown to rival the epic Rocky v Apollo clash, UCC Students’ Union President Padraig ‘Podge’ Haughney took on boxing Olympian Kenny Egan on the 12th November in the Savoy, Cork at 7pm. Cheered on by two deserving charities – CUH Charity and the Children’s Unit and Breakthrough Cancer Research – Podge emerged victorious and a new boxing legend was born.
The €10 ticket price pulled no punches in terms of value for money as 14 other fights, between UCC students and staff, also took place on the night. One such fight, involving UCC SU Welfare Officer and wheelchair user David Berry, proved particularly close and had the crowd on the edge of their seats until the final bell!
Congratulations to Podge and everyone else involved!
